Position Description:

Berkshire Hills Music Academy, a post-secondary school serving people 18 and older with learning and intellectual disabilities, is looking for a Director of Vocational Program.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The Director of Vocational Program, under the guidance of the Executive Director and Assistant Head of School, is responsible for the administration of a quality vocational program and studies for the two year certificate program and the Extended Learning Community at Berkshire Hills Music Academy. The Director of Vocational Program develops and implements the goals and objectives for the vocational programs, oversees Vocation instructor(s), and supervises student work for non-music related vocational study. This position functions as a primary representative for the vocational department to the parents of current and prospective students. It also represents BHMA's vocational programs to accrediting and licensing authorities and organizations. Additionally, the Director of Vocational Program is responsible for written program reports to outside agencies and funders, is responsible for the overall budget of the department, and must be knowledgeable of the policies of the vocation department to support the mission and vision of BHMA.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION • Develop and oversee the implementation of Goals and Objectives for the two year certificate program and the ELC program • Develop and supervise the monthly tasks to support the Goals and Objectives • Develop and oversee the creating of the curriculum to support the vocational dept. • Create assessment tool for the program • Create process and assures assessment is done • Oversee the instructional staff in supporting students goals ( ISP and IEP) • Write or supervise written documentation for Day Vendor requirements ( progress report) including portfolio • Develop and instruct courses to support student development • Develop and instruct and supports students to grow through vocation: o for personal health o building on the job and in general social skills, o independence skills, o community skills, o using music to reach other non-music goals • Create and maintain positive and successful relationships with community programs for future vocational fieldwork opportunities • Develop and or support the development of new fieldwork sites as needed • Coordinate and oversee staff in the support of student vocational goals • Supervise vocational service staff ( run weekly meetings with agenda and notes) • Manager of field work relationships • Interview, and oversee interns • Facilitate relationships with community programs non music based vocational opportunities • Assess BHMA students in the areas of independent and functional skills for non-music employment • Communicate with other staff via notes in Best Notes • Support Admissions Director ( review, assessment, and attending or presenting at conferences) • Other duties as requested by the Executive Director

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in Education, Vocational Services, Rehabilitation or similar area. • Master's degree preferred

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • Minimum of five years' experience in vocational services, management of staff and working with students

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Strong supervision skills • Knowledge of and experience with young adults who have special needs • Knowledge of Vocational services for people with special needs (law, and service agencies and deliverables) • Computer skills, especially word processing • Strong teaching skills • Strong organization skills • Strong written and oral communication skills • Certified in or able to obtain State of Massachusetts Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification, CPR, First Aid, and other certification requirements as mandated by Berkshire Hills Music Academy and its associated agencies (Department of Developmental Services, etc.)

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS • Attend Vocational workshops and conferences as enrolled by the ED • Present at conferences • Communicate with colleges in the process of recruiting and supervising interns • Attend all Parents and Graduation Weekend/Concert activities, as requested by the Supervisor • Participate in progress meetings with students and family • Attend the annual Retreat held at the academy in January • Attend mandatory staff training • Attend open house 2-3 times a year • Complete course evaluations • Complete self-evaluations at the mid-year and end-of-year points • Adhere to the policies set forth in the Berkshire Hills Music Academy Policies and Procedures Manual and support the student handbook rules • Participate in review by Supervisor This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week.
