Job Description: (Tracking Code 20121063) HealthFitness has a great opportunity for a full-time Assistant Program Manager for our client site located in Sunnyvale, CA. This premier program serves 1500 members and includes all of the standard corporate fitness amenities including group exercise studio, cardiovascular and strength training equipment, fitness services and wellness education. This facility also offers non-traditional programs and services to its members including sport and recreation leagues, tournaments and special events. As the Assistant Program Manager you will develop, coordinate, manage and evaluate health and fitness programs within specified program areas (e.g. recreation, personal training, group fitness, etc) to maximize participation, outcomes and customer satisfaction. You will also perform a variety of general health fitness professional responsibilities.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES (Duties & Responsibilities) Primary: Oversees all programming within designated areas; coordinates the development, implementation and delivery of activities, promotions, programs and special events. Facilitates the close alignment of programs with the client’s business needs, employee culture and corporate health strategies. Utilizes standard HealthFitness programs whenever possible to meet client needs. Promotes program offerings and conducts outreach activities to increase participation and re-engage inactive participants. Coordinates marketing of programs to maximize outreach and engagement; develops and distributes electronic and print promotional materials to communicate program offerings and special events. Supervises program delivery; ensures staff are properly qualified, trained and certified (as applicable) and monitored for quality assurance. Gathers program outcomes data and measures results; evaluates and reports on program effectiveness in meeting objectives and makes recommendations for future program enhancements or modifications. Researches health & fitness educational topics within their specified areas and identifies appropriate participant educational materials. Participates in business planning and budgeting process relating to program and service offerings in their area of expertise. Provides individual and group exercise instruction as applicable; educates participants on proper techniques to maximize exercise safety and effectiveness.

Secondary: Conducts fitness testing and assessments and advises participants of results; designs individualized programs to meet the participant’s interests, abilities and goals. Participates in membership drives to acquire new participants; enrolls new participants and conducts facility, program and equipment orientations. Coordinates internship program; oversees the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of student interns. Performs facility maintenance responsibilities as needed; ensures facility, equipment and locker rooms are clean and stocked at all times. Ensures personal and facility appearance meet standards. Verifies equipment is operating properly and immediately reports any potentially unsafe conditions. Maintains participant files and database. Projects and other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Certifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Kinesiology or related discipline required; 3+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience in leading, coordinating and delivering effective programs including budgeting, marketing and promotions. Current CPR, AED certifications preferred, but required within 30 days of hire. Group Exercise certification from AFAA or ACE, or specialty certification preferred. Personal Training certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, NASM) preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands. Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills including the ability to motivate others. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including at minimum Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with enthusiasm, initiative and creativity. Proficiency in fitness assessment and exercise prescription if applicable.
