Position Description:

The Office of Alumni and Parent Programs seeks an Assistant/Associate Director to work closely with the Director of Associations and Regional Programs to ensure cohesive Association programming and strategic planning. Supporting the Associations requires creating a diverse and engaging program of events and activities in conjunction with the Regional Associations and college staff, and recruiting, training, motivating and supporting the volunteers. The Assistant Director is responsible for proposing and implementing strategies to maximize the engagement of medium and small associations, contributes significantly to programmatic development and implementation and has responsibility for assigned Classes, working as their Class Liaison to the College on projects ranging from Reunion to Class Notes. The incumbent will work closely with colleagues on outreach to and collaboration with departments across campus in support of the goals of Amherst Connects, particularly in relation to alumni and student connections and information sharing.

This position requires occasional evening and weekend work as well as travel to engage with alumni, parents, and to staff events.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years alumni or institutional relations/programs experience or, in lieu of a degree 5-7 years’ experience. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the goals of a liberal arts education and to the importance of the College's relationship with its constituencies. He/she should bring innovative ideas to engage our young alumni and be energetic, able to speak and write clearly and persuasively, and have exceptional organizational, motivational, and interpersonal skills. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are essential. Attention to detail is important as is considerable initiative and imagination for innovation.
