Camp Description: Camp Wa Wa Segowea is embarking on the next chapter in its 100 year history, as the Northwestern CT YMCA takes over the operation of this historic program. Utilizing its setting on nearly 500 acres of scenic property, including a 30-acre private lake, we look forward to providing an exceptional camping experience. JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides a safe and quality waterfront and aquatic experiences for all, by directing the waterfront, including swim lessons and boating programs. The waterfront director will provide a quality waterfront & aquatic experience to children, staff, and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, consistent with the YMCA Mission and the YMCA Cause. The Waterfront Director will provide a safe and nurturing environment for everyone and will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: 1. At least 21 years of age. 2.Previous experience with supervising and leading staff in an aquatic or summer camp setting. 3.Training & experience leading waterfront or aquatic activities 4. YMCA of the USA Lifeguard Certification or the equivalent*. 5. YMCA of the USA Swim Lessons Instructor Certification or the equivalent*. 6. Ability to and willingness to crossover and to obtain YMCA Certifications in: YMCA Lifeguard 5th edition, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor, YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, if certifications are from another Nationally Recognized Certifying Agency. 7.Ability to and willingness to obtain American Safety & Health Institute BLS & First Aid Instructor certification. 8. Ability to and willingness to obtain Small Craft Safety Certifications 9.Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Oxygen, & First Aid Certifications. 10.Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. 11. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA Standards *Equivalents accepted from any National Recognized Certifying Agency Such As American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, & Royal Life Saving Society.
