DEPARTMENT: Recreation / Aquatics
I. Position Requirements:
As mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, applicants must possess:
A current Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, or Royal Bronze Medallion, or Boy Scouts of America Lifeguard Certificate, or National YMCA Lifeguard Certificate, or an equivalent certification. No alternative certification shall be deemed equivalent unless it contains the minimum requirements of the above named programs.
A current American Red Cross CPR Certificate for the Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association CPR Certificate for the Health Care Provider, or National Safety Council CPR Training.
A Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate, or a Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate, or National Safety Council First Aid Training, Level 2, or an equivalent certification. No alternative certification shall be deemed equivalent unless it contains the minimum requirements of the above named programs.
Previous lifeguard experience is preferred.
Water Safety Instructor certification preferred, but not required.
Good interpersonal skills and attitude with respect to positive patron relations.
II. Position Responsibilities:
~Understand and explain Campus Recreation policies and procedures.
~Understand the EAP and be prepared to act accordingly.
~Understand and ensure constant compliance with MA Health code.
Carry out lifeguard duties including (but not limited to) those listed below.
~Ensure the safety and welfare of all patrons in the pool area, administer appropriate first-aid and perform rescues in emergency situations.
~Complete incident/accident reports promptly after each and every occurrence.
~Constantly observe swimmers and enforce rules and regulations in the guarding of life and the prevention of accidents.
~Perform water tests and log results.
~Maintain positive relations and rapport with patrons by providing courteous, friendly and professional assistance as necessary.
~Perform general maintenance and custodial functions as needed or requested.
~Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director.
III. Job Relationship:
~Reports to and supervised by the Asst. Director of Campus Recreation (Facilities/Aquatics).
~Understand and promote the Humanics Philosophy and the College’s mission.
~Attend mandatory staff meetings, training and Campus Recreation events.
~May require working special events—includes some weekends.
~May be asked to provide assistance and/or accommodations for patrons with disabilities.
~Answer pool deck telephone and provide direction/answers to patrons’ inquiries.
~Staff uniforms (shirts) must be worn while on duty.
~Personal whistle mandatory at all times while on duty.
Not included in position, but, arrangements can be made for on-campus housing.
