Sponsored Visitors

Sponsored Visitors are researchers, scholars, or consultants who wish to engage in short- or long-term usage of the Babson Library's circulating collection while sponsored by a Springfield College faculty or Administration member.

Registration

  1. Sponsored Visitors will be asked to fill out a registration card.
  2. Sponsored Visitors must present valid identification to register and borrow library items. Valid identification accepted would be a driver’s license, passport, etc. with the visitor’s permanent address displayed.
  3. A Springfield College faculty or administration member must vouch for the researcher, scholar or consultant at the time of registration. Faculty or administration member vouching for the researcher, scholar or consultant shall assume full responsibility as their sponsor for the undamaged and timely return of all library materials borrowed during the Sponsored Visitor’s stay.
  4. Sponsored Visitors will be issued a library card granting borrowing privileges which will expire on the last day their expected stay in the area.

Databases and Articles

At this time licensing agreements with database publishers and vendors preclude the off campus use of these services. Sponsored Visitors are welcome to visit the library in person to access these services.

Interlibrary Loan

Sponsored Visitors requiring outside materials may ask their faculty or administrative sponsor to place requests for Interlibrary Loan items on their behalf.

Sponsored Visitors may choose to contact their local public library or home institution to arrange for an Interlibrary loan for Babson Library materials which they would like more extensive use of.

Photocopying

Sponsored Visitors must make arrangements in advance for cash payment or departmental billing with the Library Director’s Administrative Assistant for all photocopies made of non-circulating collection materials, such as periodicals, archival materials, etc.

Borrowing

Sponsored Visitors may borrow books from our circulating collection with the clear understanding that all Babson Library materials borrowed must be returned to the library.

  1. Short-term stay (7- 28 days): library materials must be returned on the last day of their expected stay in the area.
  2. Long-term stay (28 or more days): library materials must be returned before the Date Due indicated on the borrowing receipt presented at the time the materials were checked out.

Renewals

Sponsored Visitors will be granted a renewal only if the material’s loan period does not exceed their registration expiration date and the library materials has not been requested by another patron.

Returns

Babson Library materials may be returned in person, or deposited in the library's book drop located to the right of the front doors.

Lost/Billed Item(s) - Billing for Replacement Charges

Sponsored Visitors will be billed for the replacement cost of each item that they fail to return within the specified loan period.

Replacement charges will reflect the actual cost for replacing the lost item(s) whenever possible, such as with recently published book titles and videos/DVDs. For the remaining lost items, default charges will be used at the time of billing.

Borrowing privileges will be suspended for any Sponsored Visitor with outstanding replacement charges.

The outstanding replacement charges will be billed through the Springfield College Business Office. Checks for replacement charges should be made payable and sent to: Springfield College Business Office.

Lost/Billed Item(s) Credit for Replacement Charges

Credit for replacement charges on billed Babson Library items will be given for a period of 90 days after billing.
